Iowa Medicaid New Rule –

Iowa Medicaid – Iowa Department of Human Services

Yesterday while I was at a friends house getting ready to attend a group support meeting for weight loss surgery, I received a phone call from the surgeon that is going to be doing my surgery. They told me that Iowa Medicaid, as of August 1, will no longer pay for any bariatric surgeries.

Go higher up!

Right now there are a bunch of folks from the Des Moines area, including doctors, nurses, assistants, and the like that will be going before Governor Branstad in the coming weeks. This ruling needs to be changed. When more information becomes available to me, I will share it. Please help get this turned around here. I am one of those who desperately needs this surgery. Luckily, mine is almost planned. But I know there are others in Dr. LaMasters clinic that need this insurance also. It feels real discriminatory to me and others. Get the word out.
